Simple toothpick display

This past weekend I hosted a large-ish shin-dig at my place, and followed one of my favorite pieces of advice - hire some help! It makes such a big difference between enjoying your party and being a stressed out host...something which no guest likes to see. Minutes before the party I was literally wandering around the condo, looking for things to do. Of course, being organized helps, but having someone to assist before, during, and after the party really takes the pressure off.

One of the things she did was an old caterer's trick that I had forgotten about - using citrus to display toothpicks! It's so easy and is much nicer than dumping them in a shot glass. Just cut a lemon in half lengthwise (or orange...limes are too small), then push the toothpicks in. Ta-da! Simple and pretty.

Ok, so I'm not crazy about frilly toothpicks, but you get the idea.
