So much depends on the guests present at the dinner party, but if in unfamiliar company I will ask another guest to please tell me a bit about what they do and a bit about their family. If in the company of friends I love to ask others, "When and when was your favorite meal." It is a great conversation starter centered around a non-controversial topic and often elicits responses with stories of travels and events.
Which ice cream flavor does your spouse (partner/friend/date) remind you of most and why?
I like to ask my guests "What is your favorite book and why?"
If you could jump into a swimming pool full of anything, what would it be and why?
If you could have any job in the workd (and $ was not a factor), what would it be and why?

If were stuck on an island (given that food and drinks are available on the island) name 5 items you would bring with you
If you had to eat any one type of food for a week straight, what would it be?
