Unique birthday candles

Jen @ SecondCitySoiree Let's talk birthday candles.
I've found that they're usually an afterthought. (Oh good, you picked up the cake. What? You didn't get candles? We don't have any! Well run down to the convenience store and buy some! I don't care what kind...any kind!) Why is that? Why can we remember all the other details but the poor birthday candle is often left off the "things to buy" list. Maybe it's because they're not very interesting or stylish. Let's change that.
Cute! These would be so adorable on a cake decorated with striped or polka-dot fondant.
$5.95 for pack of 12 at Bake it Pretty Available in green, pink, blue, and red/white
I just love long skinny birthday candles. They're so chic! Available in colors shown here, for 2.79 for a pack of 12 at Organize.com
Ok hippies, here's one for you - organic natural beeswax candles. Actually, these would look nice on a cake with an outdoor motif - chocolate leaves and branches and such. $7.11 for 12 at Home Naturals
Flowers on your cake? Then use flowers for the candles! Charming little pansies (or blue violets), $9.99 for 6 at 100Candles
Kids will like these. Why settle for the typical flame when you can have colored fire! Yay, science! $5.00 for set of 12 at the MoMA Store. (photo source)
