Chicken dinner and hot towels

Jen @ SecondCitySoiree One of the blogs I read regularly is Manner of the Month, by etiquette expert (and SCS guest blogger!) Mindy Lockard. Lately she's been writing about a charming project called Family Fridays where, as an antidote to the awful weather and its accompanying cabin fever, she puts extra effort into Friday dinners by making them themed (and you know how I love a good theme). Last week's theme was a picnic complete with fried chicken. She includes the recipe, plus photos of her cute tabletop and equally cute kids enjoying the dinner.
What really caught my eye about her entry was the use of hot towels. They are SO easy to make and are a great idea when eating any greasy or sticky finger foods! Mindy has instructions on using an oven, although you can also use the microwave. As all microwaves are different, test how long yours needs to go before serving, lest you give your guests a searing-hot towel. Mindy also soaks hers in lemon water. For a short cut, get them wet, wring and roll them, then squeeze lemon over each towel before heating. No matter what the method, be sure to use clean washcloths that are kept just for this purpose...no one wants to see old mascara smudges on their finger towel!

Great idea- makes me feel warmer already! (especially being in the middle of the snowstorm!)
My favorite sushi restaurant brings these to the table and I *love* them!
Thank you Jen for your kind words about our Family Nights and featuring our lemon towels! The towels are an easy way to pamper your guests and cut grease on hands. You made a great point about the mascara... so true! Best, Mindy
Brilliant! Love the towel idea! Elegant and simple and much appreciated!
