Guest blogger: Entertaining Shortcuts

Today’s guest blogger is my creative friend Dawn of GirlfriendCelebrations.com, a site that celebrates friendships between women. You can also find Dawn on Twitter.com/GirlfriendCeleb

Are you known as a hostess with the mostess, or do you cringe at the thought of company? Some of us are more gifted than others in the entertaining department—but don’t let that stop you from having the girls over. At GirlfriendCelebrations, we think it’s better to have an imperfect party than not have one at all. We‘ve perfected the art of  “shortcut” entertaining. So stop procrastinating and start planning your next girls night with these tips:

1. Cheat on Cleaning – Does your (lack of) housekeeping prevent you from having the girls over? Forget about it—these are your friends, after all. They won’t mind a little dust; in fact, they won’t even notice it. They are just glad to get out of their own houses! Focus on a clean entryway, bathroom and kitchen. Dim the lights elsewhere, and close the bedroom doors if need be. A little tip we learned from Trader Joes (friend of the shortcut hostess): Fresh flowers make the whole house look cleaner!

2. Perfect the Potluck – Not only are potluck suppers easy and inexpensive to hold, they’ve actually become chic—if you do them right. Here’s a great article from the Stirrings cocktail blog on how to make a potluck creative and cohesive: http://www.stirrings.com/content/potluck-chic

3. Mix One Signature Cocktail. Mixing a big batch of just one cocktail is easier and cheaper than stocking a full bar—plus, it makes your party feel more special. Many of your favorite drink recipes can be pre-made in a pitcher. Just leave out the ice until you’re ready to serve.

4. Delegate, Delegate, Delegate.  It’s no fun being the one who always does the work, is it? So split up the planning responsibilities by having a different girlfriend host your girls night each month. She determines the theme, the location, the menu, and other details. Costs can be evenly split, or the hosting girlfriend can treat—that’s up to you and your gal pals. Next time, you'll sit back and relax while one of your girlfriends hosts an imperfect party!

excellent suggestions ~ you are so right that hosing an "imperfect party" is so MUCH better than not hosting at all! Refreshing to hear it! Thank you!
