Very easy, non-kitschy 4th of July (or Canada Day) Dessert

You know, I can't decide if I like flag cake because it's retro and kitschy, or if I don't like it because it's...uh...retro and kitschy.
Such problems.
Anywho, I do like these 4th of July Creme Filled Strawberries by Naomi at Bakers Royale. She offers several shortcuts worthy of Sandra Lee so you can spend less time prepping and more time partying.
If you're celebrating Canada Day today, you can swap out the blueberry for a raspberry and flavor the whipped cream with maple syrup. Not bad, eh?

Thanks for this! We're going to a friend's place for a bbq on the 4th. She's celebrating her first 4th as a full fledged U.S. citizen and was lamenting that her desire for the ultimate chocolate cupcake outweighed her need for cheesy patriotic flair. Now I know what I can put on top of the cupcakes as decoration without having to resort to scary food coloring issues!
