Hip Gift Wrapping How-to

I love to wrap presents.

Well, no.  I love to decorate presents.  I do not love to wrap them, as I can never seem to judge the correct amount of paper to the box, and always end up with extra paper which I then have to trim.  I know I could improve this skill, but there are blogs to write, episodes of Mad Men to watch, cheese to eat, dachshunds to play with...

How best to determine the amount of paper you need just to wrap the present? I always end up with extra on each side that puffs up and make the present twice as big as it really is.

If you discover that you have too much paper for the box, just trim it! Then you won't end up with a puffy present.
