Recently, Jen and I attended an event called Breakfast, Interrupted, hosted by Marlin Network. As one of the nation’s leading food marketing, advertising and product development firms, Marlin Network showcased sumptuous creative alternatives to the traditional American breakfast. It was nothing short of captivating, and I hope this description inspires you to interrupt your own definition of breakfast or brunch!

Main dishes included items such as a pork belly biscuit and gravy with buttermilk-fried chicken and a Latin inspired made-to-order egg station (shown above). My personal favorite was the duck fat fried fingerling hash with a perfectly runny sunny side egg (shown below, similar recipe here). My mouth waters just thinking about it!

Delicious juice shots in blueberry peach basil, grapefruit melon mint, apple pear rosemary and seasoned tomato & arugula (below) circulated the room. Yes, I tried each one!
I must note that service replenishment was exceptional. At one point our plates were taken away after just a few bites, but I didn’t mind because so many more options were waiting to be tasted.

The coconut-infused steel cut oatmeal station offered exotic fruit toppings including: papaya, lime & brown sugar topping, dragon fruit, kiwi & passion fruit topping, guava banana and honey topping, and - brace yourself - a caramelized mango, pineapple & macadamia nut topping. Indecisiveness overcame me and I just had to try each one. Are you seeing a pattern here?
To satisfy even the biggest sweet tooth, mini-gluten-free double chocolate pancakes stacks (shown below, similar recipe here) hit the spot.

Thoroughly stuffed at this point, we soon discovered an assortment of gluten-free and whole grain pastries from local bakeries. They included savory danishes in flavors such as ricotta & roasted tomato, gruyere & roasted asparagus, and cheese with smoked salmon and dill. Tempted though I was, I could only manage a delicious madeleine (here's a good madeleine recipe).
Forget pancakes and omelettes...Breakfast, Interrupted can interrupt me any day of the week! The event was capped off with some imaginative table decor, but that's a post for another time...
