Video from Kenmore Live Studio event - Housewarming Shortcuts

Remember when I told you about the Kenmore Live Studio event in late September?  Chef Lovely and I had a great time sharing easy home entertaining tips.  Chef showed us how to make pesto pasta, profiteroles, hummus, and mango lassi (yum!) while I gave advice on the Three Facets of Party Planning, Pre-Party Cleaning Shortcuts, and The Party Killers (of course...that's my favorite piece of advice).

If you weren't able to view it live, check out these clips! Embedded below is the full video, but if you want to see an short excerpt featuring just my presentation about the Three Facets of Party Planning, click here.

This Sunday - See me at the Kenmore Live Studio!

Remember when I did the Kenmore Foodie Blogger vs Mommy Blogger Challenge? I'm back at the Kenmore Studios this Sunday, for their Small Appliances Housewarming Party!

Hope you can attend. It should be a lot of fun! If you can't, watch it on Facebook (click on the Kenmore page "Live Studio" tab. It will then ask you to install the Digital Kenmore app...it's ok - I promise it's not a virus)

They made a cute promo video:

See you tomorrow!

Meatless Tacos from Kenmore Challenge

On Friday I participated in "Food Fight! Mom Bloggers vs Food Bloggers" at the Kenmore Live Studios.  I'm very proud to announce that my team (the foodies) won!

The challenge was to create a healthy meal that kids will want to eat, and these tacos fit the bill perfectly.  Most kids don't like the taste and texture of cauliflower...well, you can't tell that these tacos are made from cauliflower!  It's a great way to incorporate a vegetable into a delicious main dish.  Give it a whirl whether you have picky kids or just want a fun meatless meal...you could also serve them in mini shells as little appetizers.

"Stoplight" Cauliflower Tacos

(The name comes from the red, yellow, and green toppings)
8 large cauliflower florets
4 taco shells
Taco Seasoning:
    1 TBS chili powder
    1/2 tsp paprika
    1/2 tsp cumin
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    1/4 tsp cayenne
Kosher salt
Olive oil
Chihuahua cheese, thinly sliced
Romaine lettuce, chopped
Yellow and red tomatoes, chopped

Preheat oven to 350F

Finely chop florets in a food processor.  Spread on a foil-lined pan and toss with olive oil, salt, and taco seasoning.  Bake for 10 minutes.

Remove pan from oven and add cheese.  Put back in oven about 3 minutes, or until cheese has melted.  Remove pan from oven again, and mix cheese and cauliflower thoroughly.

Build tacos with cauliflower-cheese, yellow and red tomatoes, and lettuce.  Serve immediately with black beans and rice.

Two notes for those who attended the show: 1) Use a light hand in seasoning these.  My student chef assistant was a tad enthusiastic! :)  2) I recommend hard shell tacos instead of soft tortillas.

Thanks to @tkrecu for the photos!

See me LIVE tomorrow at Kenmore's "Food Fight"

Tomorrow, the folks at Kenmore are staging a Food Fight: Mommy Bloggers vs Foodie Bloggers, and I'm on Team Food!

The Challenge: Present a healthy dish that kids will love, using a pre-chosen vegetable.  I'm making "Stoplight Tacos".  The ingredients are a secret for now, but I will say that they involve cauliflower!

The Judges: A team of experts who will be swayed by the in-studio audience AND the "viewers at home"

Shameless plug...

***Please Vote For Me***

You can vote one of three ways:
1) As an in-studio audience member (678 N Wells, Chicago at 6:30pm tomorrow)
2) Under the Live Studio tab on Kenmore's Facebook page
3) On Twitter, Tweet "I'm voting for @SecndCitySoiree in the #kls Food Fight"
...but you can't vote until the Food Fight begins at 6:30 Central!

Thank you!  The winning team gets bragging rights and a prize from Kenmore.  Hmm...what do you think it might be?
